breakdown of healing artwork sessions
when I use my art to express my emotions and/or process my thoughts , I can gain clarity on parts and occasionally the whole in their messages. I would love to share with you ways I use my healing artwork to provide myself with relief from stress and invite understanding into what I am feeling.
sadness can weigh me down and negative self-talk can become really loud. this is because intrusive thoughts are LOUD, intuition is quiet. it takes practice to shut down the self-sabotaging voice to listen in to the place where your heart and soul reside.
I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for new ways to cope. it began with painting for me, however, as I spend more time creating I am adding in a variety of modalities into my art making sessions.
step by step art making
creating art allows for me to take time to provide self care for myself. I generally follow these steps:
select music to play to set atmosphere
be intentional with lighting
explore paints to pick color palette that matches mood
review inspirational mood boards for ideas
choose additional art marking objects (charcoal, oil pastels, inks)
intuitively choose a healing crystal to invite energy into studio space
burn candle or turn on essential oil diffusor
how can healing artwork activities help my mental health?
mindful meditation allows us to enter into an intentional space to cultivate calmness for us to receive relief from our stressors. since our mind/body/soul are connected when we seek out therapeutic art as a form of stress management we can reduce the effects stress can have on us. soothing ourselves by assessing how our sensory system is taking in our environment is beneficial in understanding our needs. to learn more about how sensory overwhelm can impact us read more here.
finding coping skills to give our minds a rest from thinking about our stress is just as important as finding ways to unpack the feeling surrounding it. self care art offers you the option to do both or just one at a time.
mindful planning
healing artwork can offer reflection and in turn can call attention to your wants and needs. we can become overwhelmed with stress and it can be difficult to set plans and take action to our dreams and goals. I created 5 steps that can empower you to become more aligned with your intuition to begin to move out of your own way from achieving them.

to get you started I have created 5 steps for you to move into alignment with your goals. I have added a few examples to get you thinking about how healing artwork can assist you with expanding your mindset to process, understand, release, focus and plan.
we all benefit from different modalities for use to cope and express ourselves. I encourage you to think more on ways you can use art to identify things that feel right for your mind/body/soul.
